Why are Crypto Twitter Accounts Important?

Crypto is one of the most revolutionary and personality-filled industries in the world. Information is the most valuable currency in the crypto world, and the people who provide a bulk of this information tend to be the most exciting people in the crypto space.

In the crypto ecosystem, there is one form of social media that reigns supreme other than YouTube. That platform is Twitter. Twitter is a fantastic source for quick, cutting-edge, and headline-oriented news in the crypto space

Twitter is also a frequent source of major crypto news and announcements. This facet means that if you follow the correct Twitter accounts, you will receive important crypto info right as it is announced.

In crypto, social media is a potent tool that provides a massive benefit in the crypto space. While there have been some harmful side effects of social media in crypto, the benefits have far outweighed the negatives.

Crypto and social media are here to stay, and they will continue to build each other up. This mutual interest is what makes social media essential for any crypto investor.

Top 3 Twitter Accounts of 2021

1) Michael Saylor

Michael Saylor Crypto Twitter Account

“Michael Saylor went all-in on Bitcoin in a major way this year. Yes, he’s still in charge of Microstrategy, but it’s all about BTC lately when he makes public appearances on TV or at events. His Twitter account absolutely reflects this shift and the rampant attention he’s paying to the space. Saylor’s Twitter account is some kind of faucet of educational and thought-provoking crypto content.”– Dylan Love, Host of Crypto Hot Seat, Token Metrics

Arriving in 1st place in the Best Crypto Twitter account category with just under 25% of the total vote is none other than Microstrategy founder and CEO Michael Saylor. Saylor is such a vocal supporter of Bitcoin that he is sometimes jokingly referred to as the “CEO of Bitcoin.”

With around 2 million followers, Saylor has used his massive platform to advocate for bitcoin and Microstrategy’s routine investment in bitcoin. Microstrategy was the first major public company to put its treasury assets into Bitcoin.

As one of Bitcoin’s most prominent advocates and investors globally, Saylor is focused on paving the way for Bitcoin’s institutional adoption. As a result, much of his Twitter content is focused on comparisons and thoughts regarding the relationship between Bitcoin, digital gold, scarcity, the US dollar devaluation, and digital investment strategies.

For the most part, Saylor has been largely successful in this endeavor as many credit him and Microstrategy for partially setting off the bullish trend in Bitcoin and subsequently other cryptocurrencies.

If you are looking for altcoin-related Twitter content, though, Saylor is not necessarily the account you are looking for, as his content centers around Bitcoin.

2) Elon Musk

Elon Musk Crypto Twitter Account

“Elon Musk has made himself known as a Loki-style troublemaker and rabble-rouser in the crypto world. With more than 67 million followers on Twitter, Musk uses that social media outlet as his most candid mouthpiece.”– Dylan Love, Host of Crypto Hot Seat, Token Metrics

Arriving in 2nd place in the Best Crypto Twitter account vote is the self-proclaimed Technoking, Elon Musk. Currently listed as the richest man in the world with a net worth of over $244 billion, Musk has been a titan in the tech space. Musk currently serves as the CEO of Tesla, but he is also the co-founder of the company. He is also the founder of SpaceX, Neuralink, The Boring Company, and co-founder of Paypal.

While Musk is somewhat new to cryptocurrency Twitter, he is arguably the most influential account in the space. With over 67 million followers, Musk has proven time and time again that he can move markets with just a single tweet. While the crypto community has held him in high regard, that admiration has become somewhat tarnished as his meme-posting caused crypto to crash.

Love him or hate him, Elon Musk is a must-follow in the crypto space due to his demonstrated ability to move the markets. Other than that, he often provides fascinating commentary on crypto and politics, global issues, and life. Elon Musk’s Twitter account is as unfiltered as you can get, much to the chagrin of many regulatory agencies and authority figures, while also providing frequent attempts at humor through memes.

3) Anthony Pompliano

Anthony Pompliano Crypto Twitter Account

“Everyone wants to listen to Pomp. He the crypto Secretary of State.” – William Noble, Chief Investment Officer, Token Metrics

After being slightly edged out for 2nd place in our crypto Twitter account list, Anthony “Pomp” Pompliano arrives in a strong 3rd place. Pomp is no stranger to the Moon Awards, as he earned the top spot in our category of Best Crypto Newsletters and Best Crypto Podcasts of 2021.

Wherever you look in crypto, you can find Pomp’s fingerprint as he is a founder and partner at Morgan Creek Digital, author of a daily newsletter to institutional investors, and host of The Pomp Podcast

Pomp is an absolute icon in crypto, and his Twitter account with around 1.3 million followers always makes waves across the crypto space. Interestingly enough, Pomp held positions at Snapchat and Facebook, which is why he is social media savvy.

Famous for his “Week in Crypto” and “Long bitcoin, short bankers” tweets, Pomp’s Twitter has become popular enough to feature him on CNBC and Bloomberg. You can always look to Pomp for up-to-date information and an optimistic take on the market.

Like any good Twitter account, though, Pomp’s Twitter isn’t just business. Pomp enjoys his fair share of fun through his use of memes and funny commentary on life.

Honorable Mention: CZ (Changpeng Zhao)

CZ Crypto Twitter Account

“Nobody wants to, but everyone has to listen to CZ. He’s the head of a crypto empire.”

 – William Noble, Chief Investment Officer, Token Metrics

Coming in as an honorable mention is the Twitter account of none other than CZ. CZ is the CEO of the popular crypto exchange Binance. Binance was the top crypto exchange in the previous Moon Awards category Best Crypto Exchanges of 2020.

With over 4.5 million followers, CZ has a massive platform on Twitter, which the success of Binance has propelled. After just 180 days post-launch, Binance became the largest crypto exchange globally. Currently, Binance claims to have over 25% of the market share in trading volume.

Originally born in the Jiangsu province in China, CZ moved his family to Canada, where he gained Canadian citizenship. Eventually, CZ returned to China, where he currently resides.

Some have begun to refer to CZ as the “Bill Gates of the crypto industry” as he has pushed the crypto industry forward through his economic and social culture commentary. CZ routinely fills massive venues with his talks on the importance of decentralization and the freedom of money.

CZ’s commentary on Twitter is always insightful, and reading through his tweets provides excellent insight not only on Binance but also on the crypto market.
